Jubilee Lunch?

This pheasant was in the back garden this morning. Foolish bird! I know it’s the diamond jubilee, but he didn’t have to offer himself up as the main dish of the day. Austin was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to get out!

Howeve
r, in the time it took for Austin to break down the door and for me to get my camera, the not-so foolish pheasant had hopped back over the road to the field where he normally lives in harmonious connubiality with the wife and kids. He’s subsequently been celebrating his narrow escape by squawking avian obscenities back over the road all day (I can hear him even as I type!).

Austin was a bit non-plussed!
Where’d he go?

Award time! I just want to add that CATachresis has been awarded the Liebster Award again :-)

It is awarded to those blogs that have less than 200 followers just for encouragement and support. It is unlikely that CATachresis will ever get up to 200 readers unless I change the name to "Austin’s Fluffy Bits" or actually allow him to blog or something!  Anyway many thanks to Savannah of Savannah’s Paw Tracks for giving it to us. If you don’t know her, you must go over and say hi. She is a recovering shelter cat and boy is she recovering fast! :-)

Finally, I can’t finish without mentioning again Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. Whatever one thinks about politics, the monarchy, or this particular royal family, I for one, am proud to be British and be part of this tradition. The Queen has been on the throne longer than many/most of us have even been alive and to have her knowledge, wisdom, common sense and huge experience (including twelve prime ministers from Churchill onwards) is very reassuring in these perilous and very uncertain times. She is a constant. Long may she reign!

  3. Wahooo! No pheasant as main dish, neither for Austin nor the Queen! At least not this one!

  4. No pheasant under glass for dinner, then? The Jubilee was grand. I love HRH for braving the elements, on her feet for hours!

  6. Austin, did the human slow you down? I bet it's her fault that you didnt cat the bird.

  9. Oh Austin, you silly boy, you are no match for the big bird.
What a great picture of the Queen and you should be proud to be British. Our person watched all the festivities on our TV this morning and it was really something. Loved every minute of it. Just Amazing. Take care.

  10. We've enjoyed the thought of SQUAB but never PHEASANT!!! (Though our walking-encyclopedia human mom informs us that ring-necked pheasant is our "state bird" whatever that is, you'd think we'd have one visit our feeder if they represent our state!)

Yes, even our totally-American mom has enjoyed watching the Queen endure the pomp and circumstance and typical British weather with natural dignity and grace. It's too bad the lady enjoys corgis and not kitties, we could like her.

  11. That is quite a birdie you've got! He would have been a tasty treat! We also liked the animation you did with your pictures. Our Mom is not very sophisticated helping us with our blog, sigh.

  12. So sorry, Austin... better luck next time.
But hooray for the pheasant family, still intact)!!
I think I'd much rather be having a royal jubilee than a summer of USA politicking from some pretty draconian folks!!
    :)

  13. Queen Elizabeth looked so happy and relaxed. It was nice to see her enjoying herself.
She's certainly sturdy considering her age - stood the whole time during that river parade, hops in and out of that carriage. What an inspiration - what ever your politics. Sense of duty done with grace.
Glad the planes were able to do the fly over.
Impressive: both the celebration and the Queen.

  14. Okay.... this is really, really, really weird, but, remember how Austin won the Zee/Zoey award for the 1000th comment? He was now just comment number 3000!!!!!

Anyhow, Happy Jubilee and glad the pheasant was spared!

  15. WOW...just read Deb's comment. Maybe Austin should go out and buy a lottery ticket! ; )

I love Austin's gif! haha!!! Reminds me of Katie. ...oh, I do miss the little sarcastic kitty.

We saw some of the Diamond Jubilee festivities on CNN in our hotel room. Very exciting! ....and what a beautiful and happy photo you found of the Queen. She looks much happier than Katie does in her Killer Queen outfit. (I entered her in a Diamond Jubilee contest!)

  18. Wonderful post and HUGE congratulations to the Queen!

I watched the special that they ran in the States and I was in awe when viewing the pageantry and while listening to some of the history that they shared with us.

The pyrotechnics were AMAZING, "Sir Paul McCartney" delightful and I can't believe how marvelous the Queen looks for her age!

You SHOULD be proud that you are British, it made me wish that I was!!

    Congrats on the award!

  19. LOL, I love the pheasant shouting obscenities across the street. Poor Austin, foiled again.

The Jubilee must have been amazing! I can't believe the scope of the celebrations just from what I have seen online, what a weekend. :)

  20. Those must have been some obscenities. A pheasant's screetch is something else! Many happy returns on your Jubilee.

  21. Austin has fluffy bits?? MOL. That would be an original blog name for sure. That's a pretty pheasant -- luckily for him, he is smarter than he appears to be at first.

  24. One of these days Austin.... that birdie will mess up and make a fine meal!

  25. LOL. I think it's a bit obvious in the comments that Austin can stir quite a crowd. And I agree, maybe if you changed the name into "Austin's Fluffy Bits" and make sure the background is ridden with scratches, I'm sure you'll have more followers ^^. Because all posts will be about how he doesn't like being called fluffy.

  28. We don't have pheasants which squawk obscenities to my cats from the roofs but magpies !
I watched with Rosie on my lap the Jubilee, found it wonderful and admire the Queen she went with the time ! I think since Diana's death she changed completely. And what a happy family they seem to be now. She is a very intelligent lady ! I also live in a Kingdom, but our King and Queen are not so interesting to watch, lol !
