  38. Hey Buddy, I came by to share a story with your Mum. Waaaaaaay, waaaaaaay back when (1975, if you must know) the 25-year-old Human shared a house with a couple of friends. They had two cats, a mother BooBoo and her daughter. BooBoo was about 4 then. They were indoor-outdoor kitties. The house had a long, narrow dirt & gravel driveway--maybe 50 yards long, with no way to turn around at the front of it, so you had to back out.
Did I mention BooBoo was a stoopy-head about cars? Yep, she was. And one day....yes, one day the Human backed right over poor little BooBoo. Amazingly, she popped right up and took off under the house. While the Human sobbed, another housemate crawled under the house and scooped her up and she was hustled off to the emergency vet (it was a Sunday). Well after a day of hand-wringing and crying, it was determined that BooBoo had a cleanly-broken pelvic bone and....that was it. The general theory was that the gravel & dirt driveway must have given somewhat under her and obviously her front half (head, heart, etc.) had not been run over. In the end, she had to be confined in a cage for about three weeks and then closely watched for another three, and then she was fine.
She lived another 15 years. She stayed an outdoor kitty for about four more years until the Human moved back to San Francisco where she became an indoor-only girl again. She was pretty forgiving too, as it turned out, since she didn't seem to blame the Human for what happened. Which was okay since the Human suffered the pangs of guilt for years....even NOW when she thinks about it, she shudders.
So that's my story for your Mum today!
