You can lead a cat to water ......... Yeah, right!

The Staff went and bought me a fountain!
Of her taste, there is no accountin'!
She filled it with water!
And she shouldn't have oughta!
I ran over the wall and was rantin'!

Here's the sorry saga so far in more detail with pictures and everything!

The Staff here: In the ongoing battle to get Austin to drink healthily, I purchased at great expense (£10 off in "Pets at Home":-) a water fountain that is practically silent! There was a bit of a palaver getting it constructed as the instructions appeared to be in every language but English (Brexit notwithstanding!). Luckily I speak fluent Double Dutch, so all was not lost!

At first Austin was eager to get going!

Some time later, however...

So there you have it! The lovely clean water fountain stays untouched and unsullied by kitty lips, while said kitty nips over the wall to drink from next door's broken gutter! On the upside, Austin is feeling loads better and is getting used to his adjusted diet! :-)

  2. Why am I not surprised?! I just know the two here (especially Annie) would do the same. Good for you for trying, and maybe with more time, he'll give it another chance.

It's great to hear that he's feeling better!

  10. So funny... dying! That is one snazzy fountain! I think when Staff is not looking, maybe during the night, the fountain will get checked out. I predict the curiosity of Mr. Austin will win out. Maybe Tigger will like it... :D Going to be interesting.

  11. I'm glad Austin is adjusting to his new diet - but why the reluctance to use that fountain? I think it looks ten times nicer than ours!

  13. Hannah doesn't like these fountain things as they make her whiskers wet.

  14. That probably does taste different. Love the pictures of you discarding the new water fountain, Austin. But so glad you are feeling better. He probably likes the water outside since it is probably rain water. My outside cats love to drink the rain water.

  15. OH Austin I can feel for you. Mom worries about me because I drink so little from the water bowl. I lap up all the gravy in my food but I don't like water, she hopes that will never become an issue for me.

  20. Austin my man, I hear my Mom telling my Dad once in awhile that SHE wants to get ME a fountain. I think not. I don't trust 'em. Water moving around like that? I like my water STILL.....and QUIET.....but maybe you should give that thing a try - your Mum really wants you to use it so sneak up on it and try it out one night when she isn't lookin'......you might like it - if you do - let me know OK?

    Hugs, Sammy

  21. We won a ceramic teardrop fountain several years ago on a blog giveaway. You should do what Eric did and scrape all the water out all over the kitchen floor. After a few days of mopping up a flooded kitchen floor, mum gave up and put it away.

  22. M here: CATS!!! Mario had a Drinkwell fountain that he's had for about 5 years. But when we moved it from our house over to the apartment, he would NOT touch it! Zip, zotta, nothing! He needs to drink more water too. What is a cat parent to do?

  24. SERIOUSLY???? Oh Austin! Oh well, Mom just fills our bowl with fresh water 3 times a day since Mazie slobbered so much in our fountain that it burned the motor out in less than a year MOL!

  25. Austin will come round to that fountain. Be careful he doesn't start invitin' his pals over for H2O parties

  26. This is the one I ended up getting for the boys:

    https://www.amazon.ca/Pioneer-Pet-Stainless-Fountain-Raindrop/dp/B0037NKDSG/ref=sr_1_2?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1470830547&sr=1-2&keywords=pet+fountain

They wouldn't go near it at first, and I put it away. Then a month or so later brought it out again to give another go. Lo and behold Nicki started drinking from it, so I've kept it, along with the standing water bowls. One of the recommended tips is to leave it filled with water but unplugged at first, to allow the cat to get used to it. That said, some cats just won't drink from any kind, but this was my third different fountain, so it's possible Austin would learn to accept either this one or another style.

    Purrs from the boys.

Hope you are learning to adjust to the new clean water. Glad to hear your feeling better!

  28. Instructions, constructions... MOUSES! Peep #1 just puts stuff together as she sees fit and then hides the leftover pieces. Of course, the stuff she puts together doesn't always work but you thems the breaks, I guess. MOUSES!
