For a nine year old in/out cat he has been very healthy, except for his stomatitis, which is thankfully under control.
Since his visit to the vet where he received antibiotic and anti-inflammatory shots, he has certainly improved and has had decent pees in his litter box, though as he mostly does his business outside, I can't supervise his every bathroom visit!
I have cut out kibble to only a few treats at night and have started to introduce gravy based wet food which is NOT FISH! He actually ate beef for the first time and chicken and liver! I have to say it's a bit of a miracle after years of turning his delicate nose up to anything non fish based....... unless it is fresh cooked organic chicken breast served on a silver salver!
I am thinking about introducing a water fountain, but as he runs a mile from fast moving and out of control liquid I am having doubts still!
Anyway, thanks for all the purrs and advice. Austin and I appreciate it and you all very much.
We would like to ask for purrs for a very special friend, Moses the Studio Cat, who resides over at Lily Pad Quilting Blog. He is a very sick kitty and we know he and his family would really appreciate support. You can click on the link or his picture below.
Keep doing good Austin and the running water is actually pretty good pal. We will visit your friend.
ReplyDeleteSounding great Austin! Good job eating the gravy based wet stuff that is NOT fish!!! Still keeping my fingers crossed for you so Staff won't worry so much... :) I will click on the link and visit Moses. Z Cat hated water BUT she loved drinking out of her fountain, especially when I dropped a couple of ice cubes in it.
ReplyDeleteWe are definitely contemplating a fountain so watch this space ;) xx
DeleteI will be keeping an eye on you, Austin! M'wah!
DeleteAlso, I had to use distilled water or the pump kept clogging up.
DeleteWe'll send our purrs and purrayers to Moses.
ReplyDeleteGood report for Austin! RE: the fountain: I had tried two cheaper ones years ago (noisy) and neither Nicki nor Derry would go near them. Last summer I bought one of those stainless steel raindrop ones...Petmate? Anyway, they ignored it (of course), I put it away, then after a month or so thought I'd put it out again and just try one more time before writing off the cost (not cheap). Surprisingly, they both use it, though I do see Nicki drink more than Derry. One tip, either in the instructions or that I read online, is to fill it up but NOT turn it on until the cat is accustomed to it. I can't say Austin would go for one, but if you try, look for a better one, one that's well-reviewed and quiet. The one I bought IS quiet, with the caveat that it has to be filled to the absolute brim at all times, otherwise it does become noisier.
Anyway, fingers and paws crossed for Austin, and again, purrs and purrayers for Moses.
Thank you, Kim. Petmate is what I looked at, so am weighing up the pros and cons for getting that one re Austin's needs! xx
DeleteThank you, Austin and staff, for the prayers for Moses. Thank you, to everyone who is stopping by and leaving kind purrs. We'll let everyone know how he does.....

We are super sorry to hear about your friend, Moses, and will drop by and leave a POTP message for him. Mau was so sorry you were unable to make his and Allie's wedding at Scouts on Saturday. It was quite an affair. We'll let you know when he writes about it on the blog. Take good care of yourself. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteAustin! That's great that you're feeling better....makes me happy. You're cutting back on kibble stuff and eating MEAT these days - that's a battle my Mom can't seem to win with me (!) but if it's working for you, that's what counts. I'm sorry your friend Moses is having some health issues and I'm going to visit him and leave him a hug of support. Take care of yourself dear friend..........
ReplyDeleteLove, Sammy
I'm glad to hear Austin is feeling better. It's good that he's eating more canned food. Keeping him in my thoughts. I will visit your friend Moses too.
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad that you are feeling better Austin. We sure send purrs that you keep on feeling better and keep eating that nice canned food. We will go visit your friend.
ReplyDeletePurrayers & POTP for Moses and for YOU Austin. Some kitty fountains have a way to adjust the flow, so instead of it being a rushing spate like a bathtub it can be a slow trickle like the leaky faucet in the kitchen which my kitties all love.
ReplyDeleteOMC! We were so out of the loop, we didn't even know you were back from hiatus. We have some posts to read through. Sending healing purrs to you Austin. Hope you're better at taking your meds than I am.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you haven't been well, Austin. We've been so busy and unable to keep up with reading our fave blogs lately.
ReplyDeleteSending you lots of healing purrs xx
Athena and Marie
Sorry to hear you weren't feeling too well Austin. Hope you are feeling better now.

Glad to hear he is doing better and that his palate has expanded :)
ReplyDeleteChanging foods is no easy feat. I'm glad Austin is accepting the new diet. Purrs that he continues to do better. And purrs for Moses.
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of Austin for just tucking into new foods for him. And not complaining about the lack of kibble either! There may be calmer type fountains. That just run out, not make a noise like a mountain stream. Actually I am serious. I think I have seen those advertised The water collects in the bowl but it is not boisterous coming out. XXOO
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Austin is doing better and willing to try new food. There are water fountains that don't have a running water stream that he may like.
ReplyDeletegood to hear you're doing much better Austin,xx Speedy

So glad Austin is doing better! Hope his palate continues to enjoy a variety and his cystitis remains at bay! I have been feeding the boys a lot more wet food also but Ralphie has suddenly turned his nose up at all wet which is very frustrating since he is my picky eater and my kibble fancier. I am going to try a fountain also so good luck!
ReplyDeleteHow are you feelin', Austin? Better, I hope. Purrs, Seville.
ReplyDeleteBe healthy, Austin, and drink lots of water. It's good for you.
