The Interminable Cat Flap Saga - part 423

Those of you who have been with me for a long time will know about the cat flap and the trauma surrounding the use thereof by the resident cat and his chum. To recap:

It was thought that it would be a good idea to put a flap into the wooden structure rather grandly called a summerhouse.....
.....in order that Austin would have somewhere to go in the event of a meteorological or climatic emergency.  Heaven forfend that his delicate little furry bod should even come within a gnat's whisker of the precipitation that frequents this part of North West Wales.

Tigger the Tabby learnt after just one lesson i.e. me (gently) shoving his head against the flap, that he could gain entry and receive solace and (sometimes) succour the other side.

Austin, on the other hand, is a more delicate flower and doesn't like things bashing against his head - unless it's my hand when I scrunch his ears and make with the scritches.

As I have said before on this blog, he wants succour and I'm the sucker!

NB the hand in the last picture is of my young assistant who I thank for errrr assisting during the construction of this narrative :)

  1. This shall always continue to make me laugh! Possibly the only cat on earth who is either too proud or too scared to use the cat flap. Bless his soul. I wonder if we shouldn't just invent a revolving door for him?

  11. Austin is just more discerning!

He is quite aware of the quote "Curiosity killed the cat" and he would rather be safe than sorry!

  13. Oh Austin, you silly kitty. But I bet some of us wouldn't like that kitty flap either. Why can't they just open the door and let you in and out. Geez. Take care.

  14. What a fantastic post - one of my favorite so far!! I love the picture of Austin looking out the windows with the arrows pointing to him! And I can completely visualize him waiting for you to open and close that flap. Apparently since you do succumb to his needs, he will never, ever have to do this task on his own. He appears to have an air of royalty about him!

  16. Hallo, Austin, Tigger and Caro.
We think you are ever so lucky to have a garden, let alone a summerhouse. But we aren't great fans of cat flaps. Long ago, our Human bought us a closed litter-box with a cat-flap to get in and out. It was a transparent cat-flap - just like a window - but we hated it. It made us feel quite claw-strophobic, so we (gently) purr-suaded Mummy to remove the flap.

  17. I think I need one of those for my cats, but then I'm afraid they'd make friends in the neighborhood and invite them all inside as well.

  18. When I was growing up in CA, we had a poodle named Brandy. Brandy was a very sweet and very smart dog. My mom and I found a tiny kitten abandoned in a grocery store parking lot and took him home with us right away. The little kitty was SO small that he was too weak to go outside through the pet door we had for Brandy. So Brandy would go first, keep his head under the flap and turn his body around outside so that the kitty could pass through the opening. Repeat when kitty wanted to come back in.
